Twisted is a tale of unrequited love and its eventual resolution. Mark Slade keeps getting suggestive, amorous, yet not quite obscene phone calls. He is distressed and calls his best friend Rick Hammersmith, who is intrigued by the scenario. Slade is so upset that he totally forgets about Jack Ryan, the one-night stand he has stashed in the bedroom. Physical desire eventually overcomes mental trauma, and Slade rises to the occasion and plows Ryan's tanned booty. When Hammersmith arrives to comfort our hero, the phone calls start again. The voyeur on the other end of the line likes what he sees, and requests that Hammersmith strip to his skivvies and put on a show. He enjoys his own performance while Slade falls deeper into the quagmire of his convoluted thoughts. It seems Slade has difficulty separating fantasy from reality. He also has a problem fulfilling his desires. He imagines and believes that the men around him are fucking like bunnies. While it is unfair to say that all the fucking is in his imagination, he is, nonetheless, a troubled soul. He fabricates couplings between his assistant at work and a client, and also between Clay Maverick and Steve Harper, a couple he sees in the locker room. Hammersmith recognizes these traits in his best friend, and views them as symptomatic of unfulfilled longing.
